Cowhide, Reindeer & Sheepskin Rug Care

Cowhide Rug Care

Simply Follow these easy steps to ensure your beautiful cowhide rug stays looking in great condition:

Care:
Cowhides are best used in domestic home environments. You can use the rug in your home’s indoor entranceway but it will show wear more quickly. The sun takes its toll on all furnishings fabrics, we recommend keeping the dyed and printed hides out of direct sunlight to avoid any possible fading.

Cleaning:
We advise you not to put your cowhide in the washer, immerse it in water or have it dry cleaned. Remove solid messes or spills with a solid edged spatula or utensil and blot or wipe away the rest. You can wipe cowhides smoothly in the direction of the hair with a damp (but not wet) cloth with mild soap (non alkaline like shampoo) and water. Include your cowhide rug in your normal cleaning routine, simply vacuum or give rugs a shake outside to remove dust and small dry particles of dirt.
Brushing with a hard plastic brush helps keep the hair soft and fluffy and helps remove dirt. Keep cowhides in a dry place especially after cleaning.

Reindeer Hide Rug Care

Care:
Reindeer Hides should not be placed in front of a fire place or in extreme heat (i.e. conservatories, near a radiator) this will lead to the hairs shedding. In order to ensure a longer life your reindeer should not be walked or sat on, to prevent shedding. Do not allow animals to lie on your hide as their body heat may also cause shedding, animals will also love to dig out the hair of your reindeer. If you care and look after your reindeer hide it will last for many years always looking good, giving you great pleasure.

- hang your reindeer hide on a wall
- use a vacuum on a low heat to gently sweep over your natural hide and remove any dust

Sheepskin Rug Care
Olivers’s Farm sheep skin rugs are made of a premium quality and carefully processed so that the sheepskin preserves its natural beauty.

Care:
Strong direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent UV to the natural fibres and dye colour as well as storage in damp or wet conditions to prevent damage to the leather pelt. Regular brushing will help maintain and bring out the best in the wool fibres. Small stains and light soiling can be spot cleaned with a clean damp cloth and light wool detergent.

Cleaning:
Hand or machine wash in cool water (35°C) using wool approved detergent and gentle wool cycle. Please note, machine or hand washing may affect the appearance of the natural wool fibres and the leather pelt. After washing, the natural wool may revert back to its curly state but brushing with either a wire wool comb or brush while wet and after drying will help restore the fluffy appearance and lift fibres. For more thorough cleaning, dry cleaning is recommended for best results.

Goatskin Rug Care
The Goatskin Rug is for light use only. Keep away from open fires and strong heat and do not wash. Brush frequently with a stiff wire brush and shake out daily.

Dry clean when required or apply a little ‘white spirit’, brushing the pile vigorously and leave to dry naturally.
